Principal harpists from two Ohio orchestras


The two harpists formed the Salzedo Harp Duo in 2000 and named it to honor the French composer and extraordinary harpist Carlos Salzedo. Nancy Lendrim is the Principal Harpist of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra and a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the Cleveland Institute of Music.  She has performed  with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the North Carolina Opera and the Atlanta Symphony.   She is Director of Harp Ensembles at the Curtis Institute of Music and is also on the faculty of the University of Toledo and the Toledo School for the Arts.  She teaches fifth through twelfth grade students in public schools and maintains an active roster of private students.  In 2017, she was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Harp Society.  Both she and Jody Guinn were participants in the Salzedo Harp Colony in Camden, Maine, and performed as a duo at the World Harp Congresses in Geneva and Amsterdam. Jody Guinn has been principal harpist of the Akron Symphony since 1984.  Additionally, she played principal harp for the Cleveland Opera from 1984 to 2010 and has been substituting or playing extra harp with the Cleveland Orchestra since 1986, including numerous trips to Europe, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center.  She continues to join the Cleveland Orchestra on tours and residency programs around the world.  Jody shares her love of the harp with thirty students, ages 7 to 80 and is on the faculty of Baldwin Wallace, Case Western Reserve, the Cleveland Institute of Music and Cleveland State University.
